Raccoons live in the forests of North America. So how did the brown and black animals end up in Europe? Many decades ago, a pair of raccoons were released at Lake Edersee near Hesse in Germany. The intention was to settle the raccoons, and it was impossible to keep track of how quickly the agile animals multiplied. Many raccoons also escaped from the fur industry's breeding facilities and longed for a life in freedom. These incredibly clever animals are blamed for the displacement of other animal species. If a human had not stood up for Sally and Bella, they would not be alive today. In 2023, they finally found their way to Gut Aiderbichl and have been keeping our raccoon Pauli company ever since.
