A five-month-old calf, like many of its conspecifics, was to be loaded and taken to Italy for slaughter. However, the calf took advantage of a gap between the transporter and the scales and escaped into an adjacent park. The police and fire department were alerted, but the search proved difficult. The little runaway could only be recaptured after being sedated. Michael Aufhauser and our office in Salzburg were informed of the calf's escape by telephone at short notice, and we wanted to reward the calf's courage in resisting its sad and agonizing fate. At Gut Aiderbichl she no longer needs to be afraid, because here she can be who she is in peace and without pressure.
