A few weeks ago, we received an email from the Salzburg region. Herold and Jonathan were looking for a new home. A farmer's wife had spent her whole life around the animals. At some point she retired and the farm was handed over. The cattle farm became a riding stable. The farmer's wife only wanted to keep one box as her own: the box for Herold and Jonathan. They were given a small pasture just for themselves, as they were not wanted with the horses. When they were young, the two had even taken carriage rides with the farmers. Jonathan, the pony, had taught the donkey, Herold, how to do it. It was a time full of love for the two of them, and now love had to give way to reason. The farmer's wife was not allowed to lift anything heavy after an operation and then she also fell ill with Covid19. Help from the family was not to be expected in the long term. There were people who offered to help her, but she didn't want to employ Herold and Jonathan anywhere else. "You have to know your way around animals ... They should be well looked after" - she was probably right. And so the two of them came to Gut Aiderbichl.
