It was not without reason that we decided to take in a small family of West Highland cattle at Gut Aiderbichl Iffeldorf a few years ago. Their lives were in danger and they had to be rescued as quickly as possible. Now bull calf Beatnik finally has a playmate. Because Cilla, the mother cow, came to us already pregnant again. The noble breed of West Highland cattle came to our latitudes from Scotland in the 1970s. Where they come from, they have been around for more than 300 years. Ancient reliefs clearly show that they were already domesticated in India in ancient times. The royal family of England, who keep a large herd near Balmoral Castle in Scotland, are among their absolute fans. In the meantime, many farmers here have also switched to this frugal breed. They are ideal landscape conservationists.
