In October 2007, Lorena was sent on a long and terrible journey. From Romania, via Hungary, through Austria, she was to meet her end in Belgium. She was to be slaughtered there. Animal welfare activists became aware of the transport and stopped it, as the animals were being kept in appalling conditions. Gut Aiderbichl was informed and asked for help. When Michael Aufhauser saw the extent of the tragedy on site, he immediately agreed to take in all 21 slaughter horses. Together they were able to buy them back. At Gut Aiderbichl Köllersberger, the horses have found a safe haven and, above all, a forever home.
