Dahomey cattle are considered the smallest breed of cattle in the world and originate from West Africa. They are only one meter tall and weigh 300 kilograms. This wonderful breed of cattle was named after the former kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin, Africa). They first became known in Europe after a zoo introduced them as "food animals" for the big cats. Today, Dahomey cattle are particularly popular as a hobby breed and landscape conservationist. Animal lovers were looking for a larger herd for the three Dahomey cattle, Nera, Paloma and Primo, as they felt that the previous husbandry was not enough for the three of them. They were looking for a place where they could feel at home. The animal lovers turned to Gut Aiderbichl for help and asked for assistance. At this time, we received another inquiry from Dahomey cattle and so we wanted to bring a "family" together. When they arrived at Gut Aiderbichl, the three were very anxious at first: but with a lot of love and patience, they found their happiness. They had told us loudly that they needed more companions, no matter what breed they were. So we took the plunge and integrated them into our herd of cattle, where they have now fully arrived and are enjoying themselves.
