An animal lover contacted the Gut Aiderbichl administration. When she told us her story, we were close to tears. She told us that she found out by chance that two mares were going to the slaughterhouse. When she went to look at them, the mother mare was supposedly lying tied up on the ground, covered in scars and open wounds - the little foal was standing next to her, terrified. When asked, the dealer is said to have told her that there was nothing to be done with them anyway, as they were supposed to come from a blood farm. Without further ado, the animal lover bought the two and saved their lives - but where to? First she found a place to keep them and now they both moved into Gut Aiderbichl Henndorf. But what are blood farms and what happens there? In these facilities, mares are brutally abused and exploited - it is necessary for the mares to be pregnant, as this is the only time they produce the hormone that the industry is after.
