Horse Lucky

The gelding was given away with a heavy heart

Numerous animals live on the farms of Gut Aiderbichl whose owners could no longer keep their beloved animal for financial or health reasons.
In Lucky’s case, his owner was given a terrible diagnosis by the doctors a few years ago. It became increasingly difficult for her to look after her beloved Lucky. The thought of having to part with her horse became worse and worse for her. The circumstances of her life became increasingly painful and complicated.

People cannot help endlessly

For three years, the sick woman has been supported in Lucky’s care by a friend, but now everything is becoming too much for her for health reasons. Lucky’s horse box has now been mucked out for a fee.
Lucky suffered a blocked throat twice, the costs for veterinary treatment and all the work with Lucky were like a financial explosion and led the woman to turn to Gut Aiderbichl.

… and then there was also hostility from people

The other horse owners in the stable where Lucky lived as a pensioner criticised the poor treatment of the horse. The sick woman was expected to look after her horse every day and take care of him in the right way. The physical and psychological situation worsened noticeably, and a thunder of relief was probably heard when the animal emergency centre at Gut Aiderbichl was able to agree to take Lucky in. Once again, there was to be something of a happy ending for a human and his animal.

"You're doing great, dear Lucky"

Lucky, who is almost 27 years old, has settled in wonderfully at his new forever home in Deggendorf. The peace and quiet and the freedom for the animals at the farm are like balm for Lucky’s horse soul.
He stands in the sun and enjoys his life. I wonder what he’s thinking about? It’s often as if he’s smiling.

Horses feel us humans. It is as if they have very fine antennae that allow them to communicate with humans. They radiate calm and contentment as well as strength and pride. People find all this in Lucky, even though he is no longer the youngest. He likes people.

His health is checked regularly – so far everything is fine. Lucky can chew well again because his teeth have been restored.

I always notice that old horses are particularly “cuddly”. Lucky is probably one of those cuddly bears – he does everything with his mischievous smile.

Sometimes the strongest connection between two beings is the one that cannot be expressed in words.

– Unknown

When we are allowed to meet horses, it is always a special atmosphere. A horse shows us how to live in the here and now, without worrying about the past or the future. Standing proud and tall, loving the wind, the sun and freedom – that is also Lucky’s motto.

Once again, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who support the work of Gut Aiderbichl. They are the ones who make it possible to take in the animals again and again and, as in this case, help the animal and its human. Watching and helping – a great thing.
Yours sincerely, Gisela
