Our commitment to street dogs in Romania

Dog tragedy in Romania

A few days ago we received photos from Romania again. They show little puppies. At first glance, they look very heart-warming and cute, but if you take a closer look, you can see that some of the puppies are insecure. They are surrounded by a certain sadness and there is gloom in their eyes. We would love to ask the puppies what they have seen and experienced – what stories they have to tell in their young lives.

Her mother, heavily pregnant, had decided to retreat to the garden of a family in Romania and give birth to her puppies in a more protected environment. But it takes a lot of luck and intuition to choose the “right” garden – because that is the difference between life and death. The mother of Winter, Walker, Willow, Wilder, Wynona, Wednesday and Wayana made a wise decision and chose a dog-friendly family. But even that is no guarantee of survival. But the little dog family had many guardian angels who made sure that they were able to move into Gut Aiderbichl Romania, in Puchenii Mari.

And even though we are happy for these dogs that they are now safe and have a chance of a forever home in Austria, Germany or Switzerland, many others are not so lucky.

Daily, our employees are confronted with animal suffering that is almost unbearable. It often seems hopeless when a bag is found in the undergrowth in which puppies have simply been dumped. When dogs that have been hit by cars and seriously injured lie by the side of the road. When you come across dogs that are obviously fighting for their survival. And not just in Romania, but also in Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, Serbia, etc.

It would be easy to claim that it is not our problem and that these countries should take care of it themselves. It would be easy to turn a blind eye and look the other way.

However, animal welfare concerns us all and knows no borders. Animal welfare has no nationality and animals in need need help, no matter which country they live in. Only by tackling the problem together do we have any chance of effectively and sustainably counteracting animal suffering. "Even if we succeeded in protecting the animals from us, we would have achieved nothing. Only when we succeed in no longer having to protect the animals will we have reached our goal. Then we will have changed something: Us!"
